24 Feb 2008 - Weight Week

In P.3O, we used a variety of balances to weigh. We talked about balance, level, heavy and light.

In P.3M, we had to balance the scales. We estimated which items might balance and then had great fun finding out!

In P.4T we weighed items to find out which ones were heavier than 1Kg.

In P.4M/H, we estimated which items from Mrs. Humphrey's shopping bag would weigh more than a kilogram. We then weighed each item to see if we were correct. We all thought a kilogram was VERY heavy!

In P.5B, we completed two tasks. We weighed four items using weights and then four items using scales.

In P.5R, we estimated the weight of Mrs. Reid's groceries and then weighed them to find out how accurate our guesses had been!

In P.6L, we weighed containers which were not full. Some of the contents were used from the container, we noted the full weight and then weighed each item to see how much was left. We  then used this information to find out the weight of the used contents.

In P6H/K we chose appropriate equipment to find out how many pins weighed 10g. We estimated first, then weighed and recorded results. After handling a variety of weights we estimated the weight of a pencil. Then we made up four mystery parcels, swapped groups, estimated and ordered weights. Next we recorded and the group closest to the estimate won sweets.

In P.7Q, we estimated, weighed and recorded weights of tinned foods. We defined net and gross weight. Next, we are going to investigate the net weights on our Mums' groceries!
